State of the realm: what works, what does not, what is next

update

We would rather you knew exactly what you are walking into than found out at
level thirty. So: everything, in three lists.

What works today

You can make a character, choose a house, and walk out into the world. From
there:

  • Combat, against creatures that use their own skills and pick them by
    weight.
  • Levelling and skills, across all five paths.
  • The world itself — Sparta and the regions around it, the roads between
towns, portals cast rather than clicked.
  • Loot and equipment, with rolled attributes that vary piece to piece.
  • Bags and the warehouse, so what you own persists and can be organised.
  • Merchants and silver, in both directions.
  • Death and recovery, which you will meet earlier than you intend to.

That is a game. It is not a finished one, but you can play it for a long
evening and never touch an edge.

What is half-built

  • Forging — arriving next patch, with the odds published up front.
  • Guilds — the structure exists, the social half does not. No banks, no
    ranks worth the name yet.
  • Trading between players — direct trade is close. Stalls are further out.
  • Quests — the content is there and mostly unwired. You will see the odd
quest that accepts but does not complete; that is why.
  • Pets — early, and rougher than the rest.

If a system is on this list, treat anything it gives you as provisional. We
will say so loudly before anything on it gets reset.

What is next, in order

  1. Forging, next patch.
  2. Direct player trading, immediately after — the economy is the thing
most held back by its absence.
  3. Guild functionality worth the name: banks, ranks, a reason to have one
    beyond a tag.
  4. Quest wiring, region by region, starting where new characters actually
    walk.
  5. Stalls, once trading has been in players' hands long enough to trust.

The parts nobody sees

The launcher now patches the client on its own, so an update is a
click rather than a download and a folder of instructions. Character profiles
went up on the site this week — your gear, your rolls, visible from a browser.
Rewards from donations deliver on their own now, including when the world was
restarting at the moment somebody paid.

What we are not doing

We are not adding a stat to the shop. We are not running a season pass. We are
not resetting the realm to sell a fresh start.

If any of that changes it will be announced here first, in advance, with
reasons — not discovered in a patch note.

Next update in a fortnight, or sooner if something breaks interestingly.
